Tamarind was established by Susy Barry, an Australian who has lived and worked in South East Asia since 1974. Tamarind provides destination services to the travel industry and its expertise is assisted by Susy's in-depth knowledge of the region.

Susy acts as a cultural interpreter, ensuring special clients appreciate and experience Thailand and Indochina as she knows them. A destination specialist passionate about the region, she is constantly travelling in Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos and knows about the very best places and unique possibilities.

Susy understands the demands of the travel industry. She has worked in both wholesale and retail travel since 1974 and in the 1990's, established the first international level training consultancy in Hanoi. Spending 10 years based in Vietnam, she provided cross cultural and customer service training to hotels, tour companies and other international businesses in Vietnam and Thailand.

Susy's love of Thailand and Thai culture led her to Thai studies at Bangkok's Chulalongkorn University and to guiding at Bangkok's National Museum. Her specialist cultural knowledge and organisation skills are extensive, as HarperCollins discovered when she acted as Assignment Editor on A Day in The Life of Thailand.
